2026 World Cup Qualifier: Osimhen Fires Nigeria Ahead Against Benin

Nigeria took a 1–0 lead against Benin Republic on Tuesday in Uyo, with star striker Victor Osimhen scoring in the third minute of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

The Super Eagles started the game well, with the Galatasaray striker taking an early chance to give Nigeria the lead in a must-win match for their World Cup hopes.

The goal thrilled the home fans as Nigeria aimed to grab all three points to keep their World Cup hopes alive. However, a win alone might not be enough, as qualification also depends on other match results.

Meanwhile, in another Group C clash, South Africa took an early lead against Rwanda, with Thalente Mbatha scoring in the fifth minute. If the scoreline remains unchanged, Bafana Bafana will seal qualification ahead of Nigeria.

The Super Eagles, under coach Finidi George, must sustain their performance and rely on the South Africa–Rwanda result to remain in World Cup contention.
