To commemorate the 2025 World Alzheimer’s Day, Silver-Cross Hospitals and Foundation, Abuja, in partnership with key organizations, held a large-scale free medical screening for elderly residents at the Arts and Culture Complex in Area 10, Abuja.
The outreach drew over 200 elderly participants who benefited from free health screenings, cognitive assessments, and donated medications. It was held in collaboration with NaidCARE, with support from the National Orientation Agency and the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Patrick Ezie, Chief Executive Officer of Silver-Cross Hospitals and Foundation, said the outreach reflects the hospital’s commitment to improving healthcare access for the elderly and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.
“Older people are often overlooked in health interventions, especially those dealing with cognitive illnesses like Alzheimer’s. This initiative is our way of ensuring they are not left behind,” Dr. Ezie said.
World Alzheimer’s Day, held every September 21, seeks to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia worldwide, reduce stigma, and enhance care for patients. The Abuja event highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and management of age-related conditions through regular health checks and education.
Participants thanked organizers and urged regular elderly health programs, while organizers called for increased funding and collaboration to support Nigeria’s growing senior population.
