Former United States President, Barack Obama, has paid tribute to Nigeria’s Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, in a new 12-part podcast series titled “Fela Kuti: Fear No Man.”

The podcast, produced by Obama’s media company, Higher Ground Productions, explores the life, music, and political influence of the late musician, who was renowned for his fearless activism and revolutionary sound.
The series, hosted by award-winning storyteller Jad Abumrad, features rare archival recordings and exclusive interviews with global music icons such as Paul McCartney, Questlove, Santigold, Burna Boy, David Byrne and Ayo Edebiri alongside members of the Kuti family; Yeni, Femi, and Mádé Kuti.
According to the producers, “Fela Kuti: Fear No Man” draws from over 200 interviews with friends, family, and collaborators to present an in-depth look at Fela’s artistry and activism. The first two episodes, “To Hell and Back” and “Becoming Fela,” premiered on October 15, coinciding with this year’s Felabration festival held in his honour.
Obama described Fela as “a musical genius from Nigeria” whose songs “get people moving, make them feel alive, and stir the soul.” The podcast, available on major streaming platforms, aims to inspire listeners through Fela’s story of resistance, creativity, and courage in the face of oppression.
