The Lagos State Police Command has declared human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, wanted over an alleged plan to incite public disorder and obstruct traffic in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, announced this in a statement on Monday, saying the command uncovered a plot by Sowore and his supporters to stage protests that could disrupt movement on major highways, including the Third Mainland Bridge and other strategic areas of Lagos.
Jimoh said 13 suspects connected to the planned protest have already been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved. He warned Sowore to report himself at the nearest police station immediately or face arrest wherever he is found.
The police chief maintained that while citizens have the right to protest, such actions must not threaten public peace or obstruct the free flow of traffic across the state.
The declaration comes amid recent tensions following demolitions in parts of Oworonshoki and its environs, where Sowore’s “Take It Back Movement” had vowed to mobilize demonstrations against the state government’s actions.
