Netizens React as Naval Officer Ahmad Yerima Breaks Silence With First Instagram Post After Wike Confrontation

Nigerian naval officer Ahmad Yerima has sparked fresh online buzz after sharing his first Instagram post since his widely publicized confrontation with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

Yerima became a trending topic last week when a viral video captured a heated exchange between him and Wike during a security operation in Abuja. In the footage, the minister was seen scolding the officer, while Yerima responded calmly, insisting he acted on instructions. His composed reply, “I am not a fool, sir. I have integrity,” quickly turned him into a social media sensation.

Days after the clash, Yerima returned to Instagram with a fresh post that immediately drew thousands of reactions. Although the post itself was simple, many Nigerians interpreted it as a subtle message of resilience following the confrontation.

However, not all reactions were positive. Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti questioned Yerima’s hero status, arguing that true courage lies in refusing unlawful orders rather than simply enduring verbal attacks from superiors. Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, publicly defended Yerima, stressing that the officer acted within military rules and committed no offence.

The incident continues to generate discussions about professionalism, power dynamics, and the conduct of public officials, as Nigerians debate the broader implications of the confrontation.
