Firefighters rescued a 12-year-old boy from a blazing apartment in Ibadan’s Oke-Ado area on Tuesday, saving his life as flames destroyed his family’s home.
The fire broke out at No. 1, Taiwo Street, Micheal Fadahunsi Close, Joyce B, consuming the living room and kitchen of a three-bedroom flat on the upper floor of a four-unit residential building.
An Oyo State Fire Service personnel pulled the boy from the burning apartment and rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment, he survived the ordeal.
However, the inferno destroyed properties worth millions of naira before firefighters brought it under control. No other casualties were reported.
“Our men responded quickly and were able to rescue the victim alive,” said Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The affected family now faces the task of rebuilding after losing most of their possessions to the flames.
