The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has restated his personal conviction about how he believes his life will end—peacefully, on a Sunday, after church service and a final plate of pounded yam.
Speaking on the fourth day of the church’s ongoing Annual International Convention, themed “The Overcomers”, Pastor Adeboye told thousands of worshippers gathered at Redemption City that death does not always come through sickness or suffering, especially for those truly rooted in Christ.
“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” the 82-year-old cleric said.
Preaching a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions,” Adeboye urged Christians to actively claim the blessings God has made available healing, fruitfulness, prosperity, and long life warning that these promises often require spiritual resistance.
“There are blessings already purchased for you by the blood of Jesus, but you must fight for them,” he said. “The devil will do all he can to stop you from enjoying what belongs to you.”
Quoting John 10:10, he reminded the congregation that although Christ came to offer abundant life, a spiritual thief is always working to steal, kill, and destroy the blessings meant for believers.
Addressing the often debated issue of prosperity, Adeboye maintained that poverty is not part of God’s plan for His children and urged Christians to break free from a mindset of lack.
“The One who owns all the silver and gold paid a heavy price so that you wouldn’t remain poor. If you choose to be poor, you’ll stay poor,” he said. He also pointed out the double standard society places on successful Christians; “When you prosper, they criticise you. When you die poor, they ask, ‘Where was your God?’ So why not rise and claim what is yours?”
Adeboye futher urged believers to stop tolerating spiritual oppression, referencing biblical women like Hannah and Rachel, who overcame barrenness through persistent faith.
“It’s what you tolerate that disturbs you,” he declared. “Stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, and premature death. Fight back, it’s your right in Christ.”
The RCCG convention continues through the weekend, with thousands in attendance and millions joining online from around the world.
