INEC Issues Strong Warning Against Multiple Voter Registrations

With the Continuous Voter Registration set to begin nationwide, INEC issues a strict warning; ”anyone caught registering twice will face permanent removal from the voter register”.

The warning was issued by Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, during a stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the CVR’s online registration launch on August 18. Sadiq stressed that voter registration is both a right and a civic duty, but must be conducted within the bounds of the law.

“No individual can vote in an election unless they are duly registered. But let it be clear; multiple registrations are a serious offence and could lead to delisting from the register,” he stated.

He encouraged Nigerians who have turned 18 or have never registered to take advantage of the opportunity to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while warning that INEC’s systems are equipped to detect repeat entries.

“The commission will not tolerate any act of double registration. Anyone found culpable will face the consequences,” he added.

The CVR will also serve those seeking to change their voting location or replace lost or damaged PVCs. Registration can be done easily online at www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, anytime and from anywhere. He also assured the public that measures are in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the exercise.

He appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to join efforts in raising awareness and encouraging full participation among eligible citizens.
