TETFund Commissions International Conference Centre at Bayero University

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has transformed an abandoned project at Bayero University, Kano into a world-class international conference centre aimed at putting the institution on the map for global academic and research excellence.

TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, who commissioned the project on Thursday, said the centre aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at strengthening institutions through cutting-edge infrastructure.

“When you have a facility like this that competes globally, it shows we’re uplifting our standards,” Echono said, adding that the project’s completion followed a renewed effort to revive abandoned and distressed university infrastructure.

He described the centre as a future hub for high-level academic, business, and development activities, expected to enhance revenue generation and elevate the university’s profile.

“It will attract conferences of all levels and serve as a major source of income,” he said, urging university authorities to prioritise proper use and maintenance of the facility.

BUK Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Abbas, expressed appreciation to TETFund for breathing life into the project, originally initiated by former Vice Chancellor Prof. Abubakar Rasheed over 15 years ago.

He highlighted that the centre includes over 38 accommodation rooms, several conference halls, and state-of-the-art support facilities, making it fully equipped to host international gatherings and events.
