UNIZIK Halts Final Year Celebrations

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) management in Awka has, effective immediately, banned final-year students from participating in examination orchestration signing off due to ongoing violence, chaos, and disruptions that have endangered campus safety and disrupted academic activities.

In an official statement on Tuesday, signed by Registrar Dr. Chinenye Okeke, the university announced the immediate and indefinite ban of all forms of signing off related to final examinations on campus.

The statement emphasized that ongoing incidents of disorder and the involvement of unauthorized individuals during these events pose significant risks to the safety and security of students, staff, and the entire university community.

“The university management wishes to inform you that, effective immediately, all forms of orchestration (‘signing off’) related to final examinations by final-year students are completely and indefinitely banned from the university premises. This decision responds to recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption associated with these events,” the release read.

Dr. Okeke warned that students who take part in the banned activities risk severe disciplinary penalties, including rustication, while non-students involved may be arrested and prosecuted for disorderly behavior and breaching public peace.

The university restated its commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment and encouraged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits.

“We urge all students to focus on their academic responsibilities and report any instances of misconduct or threats to safety to the appropriate authorities,” the statement added.
