ADC Candidate Blasts Vote Buying and Low Turnout in Ibadan North By-Election Scandal

Femi Dexter Akin-Alamu, the ADC candidate for Ibadan North by-election, has sounded the alarm over shocking reports of widespread vote buying by politicians during Saturday’s poll.

After voting at Ward 11, Polling Unit 38, inside the University of Ibadan, Akin-Alamu revealed that he had received reports of voters being bribed with cash and other incentives to secure their votes.

“I’ve received several credible reports indicating that money and other inducements were being distributed to voters. This kind of behaviour deeply undermines the integrity of our electoral process and the core values of democracy,” he said.

Akin-Alamu, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth conduct of the exercise, particularly applauding the early arrival of officials and voting materials at polling units.

“I must give credit to INEC. The timely deployment of materials allowed the voting process to start on schedule and run efficiently,” he noted.

While praising the smooth logistics, Akin-Alamu voiced concern over the noticeably low voter turnout at many polling units, calling it a serious blow to participatory democracy.

“The turnout has been quite discouraging. When people fail to show up to vote, it weakens the democratic process and limits the legitimacy of the outcome,” he added.

The Ibadan North by-election was held to fill the vacant seat left by the late Hon. Olajide Akinremi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who passed away on July 10.

As vote collation progresses, both observers and candidates are demanding transparency, accountability, and a stronger commitment to upholding the integrity of the election.
