Adeleke Emerges as Accord Party Governorship Candidate

Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke has emerged as the official governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the 2026 Osun State governorship election, just days after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The development positions him to contest under a new platform, following a high-profile exit from his former party.

During the party’s primary in the state capital, Adeleke was approved as the only candidate by the Accord Party screening committee. He was then officially elected by the delegates, making him the party’s governorship candidate for the next election.

However, out of 150 delegates representing Osun State’s 30 local government areas, Adeleke secured 145 votes, while five other votes were declared invalid. The outcome reflects overwhelming support from party delegates, signaling strong internal backing for his candidacy.

Upon receiving his certificate of clearance, Adeleke pledged to use his track record and the goodwill of the people to ensure Accord Party’s success in 2026. He described his new platform as a fresh opportunity to continue delivering good governance, improve infrastructure, and enhance social welfare programs across the state.

Experts say Adeleke’s move to the Accord Party and quick nomination could change the shape of the 2026 governorship race. He now faces the challenge of turning his personal popularity into votes for his new party. With the nomination confirmed, attention is now on how he will win support across Osun State under the Accord Party banner.
