In response to the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the 4% Free on Board levy on imported goods, Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has announced a major employment initiative to hire 1,000 fresh graduates through its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme.
The airline stated that removing the 4% FOB levy eased financial pressure, allowing for growth and new hires. The levy, introduced by the Nigeria Customs Service, had been widely criticized for threatening inflation and business stability.
Finance Minister Wale Edun admitted the levy threatened trade and investor confidence and its removal has been welcomed by the private sector.
As a result, Air Peace is advancing its graduate employment programme to train and hire young Nigerians in areas such as flight operations, engineering, customer service, and administration. The initiative aims to offer structured training and long-term career paths for successful applicants.
Industry experts have commended the move, calling it a clear example of government policy supporting private-sector growth and job creation. Given Nigeria’s high unemployment rates, the airline’s initiative is viewed as both timely and impactful.
