The All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced the temporary closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the Secretariat will remain closed until Thursday, July 17, 2025. The closure, he said, is in honour of the late president and in line with the national mourning declared by the Federal Government.
Former President Buhari died in London on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged, undisclosed illness. His death was confirmed by President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
President Tinubu has since directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom to arrange the repatriation of Buhari’s remains.
The President also ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the late leader.
The APC, in its statement, called on members and Nigerians at large to observe the period of mourning with solemn reflection and prayers for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul.
The late president served as Nigeria’s civilian leader from 2015 to 2023 and previously as a military ruler from 1984 to 1985.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
