The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who tragically died on Monday after falling from the top floor of her apartment in Katampe, Abuja, during an armed robbery incident.
According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, Maduagwu fatally fell while attempting to escape the armed robbers by jumping from the top floor of her apartment. Police believe she acted out of panic as the intruders forced their way in. She was confirmed dead shortly after the incident.
Maduagwu, a rising Arise News journalist, was known for her sharp reporting. Her death has shocked the media industry and drawn collective grief. In a statement, Arise News described her as “a dedicated journalist whose work earned trust and respect.” The network offered condolences to her family and vowed to assist in efforts to ensure justice is served.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and a team of detectives has been deployed to track down the assailants. Authorities have also promised increased patrols and security measures in the area following a recent spike in armed robbery cases across the capital.
