BREAKING: Bayelsa Governor Diri leaves PDP

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after weeks of speculation about his plans.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, announced on Facebook on Wednesday that Diri had resigned. He added that the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP lawmakers in the state also quit the party.

“The governor has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party along with the Speaker and other PDP lawmakers in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly,” Alabrah stated.

Although many people believe Governor Diri may join the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alabrah did not say which party he plans to move to.

Diri’s resignation is a major political change in Bayelsa State, where the PDP has led since 1999. Analysts say his move could affect the state’s politics ahead of the next general elections.
