Buhari’s Remains Leave London for Final Resting Place in Daura

The remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, departed London, United Kingdom, on Tuesday morning en route to Daura, Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest.

According to media correspondents, the late president’s body is being transported aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft. Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a high-level Federal Government delegation to facilitate final documentation and oversee the logistical arrangements surrounding the repatriation process.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will personally receive the late president’s remains at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina.

“A brief military ceremony will be conducted upon arrival before the body is moved to Daura for the Jana’iza (funeral prayer) and interment at his residence,” Idris told journalists during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital, is to be buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

In honour of the former Nigerian leader, President Tinubu has directed the opening of condolence registers across all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as at all Nigerian embassies and diplomatic missions abroad. A national condolence register will also be available at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

The President has also constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to ensure a well-coordinated and dignified burial. The committee is working closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.

Furthermore, 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to travel to Katsina to participate in the burial rites and remain in Daura for the Third-Day prayers scheduled to hold on Wednesday.

Minister Idris also disclosed that tributes and condolence messages have continued to pour in from world leaders, describing them as a reflection of the late president’s global stature and enduring legacy.
