Cardi B sparks viral buzz after greeting Saudi fans with “Salam Alaikum.”

American rapper, Cardi B has gone viral in Saudi Arabia after greeting fans with “Salam alaikum” at a major music festival and posting videos praising the kingdom.

The artist performed at the MDLBEAST, Soundstorm festival in Riyadh early Sunday morning, where she opened her set with the traditional Muslim greeting before thousands of fans.

Cardi B, known for explicit language and revealing outfits, dressed more conservatively for the Saudi show where she wore a flowing costume that covered her from neck to toe and avoided her usual graphic expressions.

Before the concert, she posted videos wearing a hijab while shopping at luxury malls in the Saudi capital. She told the crowd that “everything is mashallah” in Saudi Arabia, using the Arabic phrase that means “God has willed it.”

In an Instagram post that have been widely shared online, Cardi B praised Saudi Arabia’s modern look and shopping.

“Everything is brand new, honey. This country looks like it was just opened up yesterday,” she said.

“The shopping is great, mashallah!” she added, while noting her fame in the kingdom. “I’m somebody over here.”

She also recommended Saudi Arabia for vacations, saying there’s no alcohol “but some of y’all don’t need to be drinking.”

Saudi Arabia has been spending large sums to bring in international celebrities as part of economic reforms aimed at attracting investment and improving its global image.

The kingdom has also hosted other artists like; Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Eminem and other major stars in recent years.

Western entertainers who perform in Gulf states often draw criticism for accepting big payments while rights groups say they ignore human rights issues.

Earlier this year, American comedians at the Riyadh Comedy Festival faced accusations of hypocrisy for defending free speech at home but performing in Saudi Arabia.
