Senator Dino Melaye, a former representative of Kogi West, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticizing the party’s inability to tackle what he calls “political cankerworms” plaguing Nigeria.
Melaye announced his decision on Thursday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing a resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State.
In the letter dated July 4, 2025, Melaye explained that his resignation was necessary due to the party’s “lack of potency and capacity” to free Nigerians from deep-rooted political problems affecting the nation.
After careful reflection on the PDP’s current direction, Melaye said he could no longer, in good conscience, remain active or support the party’s agenda.
“Please accept this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels, effective immediately,” the letter stated.
Despite his exit, Melaye thanked the party for the opportunity to serve during his membership.
