EFCC Grants Bail to Former Sokoto Governor Tambuwal Over Alleged N189bn Fraud

After being quizzed over a jaw-dropping N189 billion cash scandal, former Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has walked out of EFCC custody on bail.

The former governor arrived at the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters around 11:30 a.m. on Monday and was interrogated for several hours before being held in custody overnight.

According to sources within the commission, the massive cash withdrawals are suspected to be in violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

EFCC officials confirmed that Tambuwal was released on Tuesday after fulfilling bail conditions described as “not stringent.” However, the commission has retained his international passport as part of the ongoing investigation.

“He has been released on administrative bail. He met all the bail conditions. His passport is with us,” an EFCC insider said.

As of press time, efforts to get an official statement from the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful. Calls to his phone went unanswered, and messages sent to him remained unacknowledged.

The EFCC has not disclosed whether further charges will be filed, but sources suggest that the investigation remains active.
