Ekiti Set to Host 2nd Ikogosi 17.5km Marathon, Targets 5,000 Participants

The organisers of the 2025 Ikogosi 17.5km Marathon Race have announced that the second edition of the event will take place on November 8 at the famous Ikogosi Warm Spring in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, with over 5,000 runners from across the country expected to participate as part of efforts to promote tourism and healthy living in the region.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, where Race Consultant Femi Abegunde revealed that this year’s edition promises to be bigger and better, featuring a diverse blend of elite athletes and local participants.

According to Abegunde, the event is being organised by the Ikogosi Marathon Initiative in collaboration with the Ekiti State Government, as part of broader efforts to promote tourism, wellness, and youth engagement through sports.

“The Ikogosi Marathon is not just a race; it is an experience. With over 5,000 runners expected this year, we are confident that this edition will further cement Ekiti’s place on the map as a destination for both sports and tourism,” Abegunde said.

Ikogosi Warm Spring, known for its side-by-side warm and cold springs, attracts thousands yearly and offers a scenic, challenging terrain ideal for long-distance racing. Abegunde added that preparations are in top gear to ensure a safe, competitive, and enjoyable event for all participants and spectators. He also hinted that prize money and other incentives would be made available to encourage participation and recognize top performers in various categories.

“The state government has been very supportive, and we are working closely with all relevant agencies to deliver a world-class marathon that will not only celebrate athletic excellence but also boost local economic activity,” he said.

The first Ikogosi Marathon in 2024 was a major success, drawing interest from athletes, tourists, and the local community. This year, organisers plan to expand the event with entertainment, cultural showcases, and a fitness fair.

As the countdown begins, anticipation is rising across the state and beyond, with athletes, spectators, and tourists set to converge on Ikogosi for an exciting celebration of sport and culture.
