The 36-year-old announced his retirement on Tuesday, sharing a heartfelt message reflecting on his journey and expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to his success on and off the pitch.
“This decision comes with mixed emotions,” Ideye said. “Football has given me so much — from unforgettable memories and tough times to incredible friendships and the opportunity to see the world.”
Ideye launched his professional football career in Nigeria and most recently played for Enyimba FC, the two-time CAF Champions League champions. Over the years, he represented several clubs across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including notable stints at Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, and Olympiakos.

While playing abroad, Ideye built a reputation as a dependable striker, admired for his speed, intelligent movement, and goal-scoring instincts. He won several titles, delivered crucial goals, and consistently made his mark at every club he joined.
One of the standout moments of Ideye’s career was his contribution to Nigeria’s triumph at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa, under the leadership of the late coach Stephen Keshi. The victory remains a defining achievement in Nigerian football history, with Ideye’s performance playing a key role in cementing his legacy as part of the golden generation of the Super Eagles.
He expressed his deep pride in wearing the national colours, calling it one of the greatest honours of his life. “Representing Nigeria was a dream come true. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to play for the Super Eagles,” he said.
Although retiring from professional football, Ideye emphasized that his journey with the sport is far from over. He expressed a desire to remain involved in football in some capacity, though he has yet to reveal any concrete plans for the next phase of his career.
His retirement marks the close of a remarkable chapter in Nigerian football. With a career built on hard work, discipline, and resilience, Brown Ideye leaves behind a legacy that will inspire the next generation of footballers.
