FCT Resident Doctors Suspend Strike, Set to Resume Work Monday

The Association of Resident Doctors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration has announced the suspension of its ongoing indefinite strike and confirmed that the members are scheduled to resume work on Monday at 8 a.m.

The association’s president, Dr. George Ebong, while speaking to the media on Friday stated that the decision to temporarily suspend the strike was prompted by the intervention of the Nigerian Senate. He emphasized, however, that none of the doctors’ demands have been addressed, and the suspension should be seen as an act of goodwill rather than a resolution to the issues.

The ARD-FCTA represents resident doctors serving in 14 district and general hospitals across the Federal Capital Territory, along with those working in the FCTA’s Department of Public Health.

The strike was triggered by unresolved issues, including poor welfare, inadequate working conditions, and a lack of action from the appropriate authorities. Although the doctors are resuming duties, the association has cautioned that the suspension is only temporary and may resume if there is no concrete progress on their demands.

The association’s President also stressed the need for the government to act swiftly to meet the doctors’ demands, urging continued engagement to avoid further disruption of healthcare services across the Federal Capital Territory.
