The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the parade earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1.
The announcement came in a Monday statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations.
“The statement noted that the cancellation does not lessen the significance of the celebration. The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” the statement read.
Despite the cancellation, the government affirmed that other scheduled events will go ahead, including the presidential broadcast, cultural activities, and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate.
The government apologized for any inconvenience caused and urged Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s unity and progress.
