FG denies using poor materials on Ondo road project

The Federal Government has denied reports claiming poor-quality materials are being used for the Ore–Ondo–Akure road project, saying the construction meets global engineering standards.

A viral video recently claimed that poor-quality materials were used on parts of the road, raising public concern about the project’s quality. However, Minister of Works David Umahi dismissed the concerns, saying the project meets approved standards and global best practices.

He said the main road and the outer shoulders were built differently because each has a specific function. According to him, the main road handles heavy traffic like trucks and trailers, so it needs stronger materials, while the outer shoulders are for occasional use, such as emergencies or breakdowns.

Engineer Olajide Hussein representing the Federal ministry of Works said, “We saw the viral video where the complainant questioned the use of wire mesh on the outer shoulders. It is important to clarify that the outer shoulder and main carriageway serve different functions, so their structural requirements differ,” he said.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all federal road projects across the country adhere strictly to quality and safety standards.
