A fire erupted early Thursday at Olugbile House in Oyo town’s Iyalamu area, damaging parts of the residential building and destroying several household belongings.
According to reports, the blaze began around 5:00 am when a lit cigarette, left unattended by one of the occupants, ignited nearby flammable materials.
Although no casualties were reported, two of the building’s eight rooms were severely affected. Properties and personal belongings were lost in the fire.
Confirming the incident in Ibadan, the State Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters responded swiftly to the distress call.

“Upon arrival, our officers found two rooms of an ancient residential building on fire,” Akinwande said. “They immediately took action and were able to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading further.”
He added that residents and onlookers were sensitised on fire safety measures, stressing the importance of having fire extinguishers in every home.
The Oyo State Fire Service reiterated that the cause of the fire was a carelessly discarded cigarette, urging the public to exercise caution with fire-prone materials.
