First Lady Calls for Collective Action to Achieve HIV-Free Nigeria by 2030

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged citizens to unite behind the federal government’s goal of eliminating HIV/AIDS in the country by 2030.

Speaking on World AIDS Day 2025, Senator Tinubu emphasized the need for a coordinated national response to end the epidemic that continues to affect thousands of Nigerians.

The First Lady stressed that achieving an HIV-free Nigeria requires collective effort from all sectors of society, including government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society organizations, and individual citizens.

“This is not just a government project but a national responsibility that demands our shared commitment,” she stated in her World AIDS Day message.

The First Lady hightlighted the importance of sustained investment in HIV prevention programs, expanded testing services, and ensuring uninterrupted access to treatment for people living with the virus. She also called for intensified efforts to combat stigma and discrimination, which continue to serve as barriers to testing, treatment, and care for many Nigerians affected by HIV/AIDS.

Nigeria remains one of the countries significantly affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. The 2030 target aligns with global efforts under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to end AIDS as a public health threat.

As Nigeria marks World AIDS Day 2025, health authorities and advocacy groups are intensifying awareness campaigns across the country to educate the public about prevention methods, encourage voluntary testing, and promote treatment adherence among people living with HIV.
