Four governors of the People’s Democratic Party have arrived in Ibadan ahead of the party’s national convention, despite ongoing court battles and legal uncertainties over the event.
The Oyo State High Court cleared the PDP to hold the convention on November 15–16 and asked INEC to monitor the event. But a Federal High Court in Abuja earlier ordered the convention to be stopped, saying the party had not followed all its rules.
According to the South-West chairman of the party, Kamorudeen Ajisafe, the number of governors available in Ibadan include; Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara). Their presence signals support for the PDP national leadership and determination to hold the convention despite legal challenges.
However, a faction loyal to former PDP Chairman Nyesom Wike has urged members to boycott the convention, calling it illegitimate; but the party leadership says the convention will proceed as planned.
The convention is set to elect PDP national officers and shape the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 elections. The outcome’s legitimacy will depend on how the legal disputes and INEC’s involvement are resolved.
