Gov Umo Eno Approves ₦20,000 Monthly Allowance for Akwa Ibom Corps Members Nationwide

In a bold move to support youth empowerment and ease the cost of living for young Nigerians, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a ₦20,000 monthly allowance for all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Akwa Ibom origin serving across Nigeria.

This initiative, which takes effect from August 1, 2025, was announced following a State Executive Council meeting held on Monday. It extends to indigenous corps members posted both within and outside Akwa Ibom State, ensuring they receive additional financial support beyond the federal government’s NYSC stipend.

The announcement was made public on Tuesday in an official statement from the Government House, Uyo.

The allowance is part of Governor Eno’s broader youth-focused policy framework known as the Renewed Hope – ARISE Youth Support Initiative, which seeks to provide sustainable economic relief, capacity-building opportunities, and a sense of belonging to young people serving the nation.

The initiative targets not just NYSC members but also young professionals, entrepreneurs, and graduates across Akwa Ibom, aiming to deliver inclusive development and support future leadership.

Speaking on the policy direction, Governor Eno emphasized his administration’s commitment to building a society where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered.

“Our young people are the future of Akwa Ibom and of this nation. This government will not pay lip service to their needs—we are backing our words with action,” he stated in an earlier address related to youth development.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with high inflation, food insecurity, and unemployment, initiatives like this are seen as practical steps to support young people navigating a challenging economic landscape.

With the ARISE Youth Support Initiative gaining momentum, Governor Eno’s administration is expected to unveil additional programs aimed at youth entrepreneurship, digital literacy, creative industry support, and agro-based empowerment schemes.

For now, the ₦20,000 monthly allowance stands out as one of the most ambitious and youth-friendly welfare decisions in the country’s recent history, potentially setting a new benchmark for sub-national youth policy implementation
