INEC Flags Off 2025 Voter Registration Nationwide Ahead of General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, in preparation for the upcoming general elections.

In a statement released via its official X handle on Friday, the Commission confirmed that the voter registration process will begin with online pre-registration on Monday, August 18, 2025, through its official portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org. The online portal will allow eligible Nigerians to begin the registration process remotely before completing it in person.

According to INEC, physical registration will follow a week later, starting Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and designated registration centres across the country. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, Mondays to Fridays.

The electoral body encouraged eligible Nigerians, particularly those who have recently attained voting age or missed previous registration exercises, to take advantage of the opportunity.

“This exercise is for Nigerians who have attained voting age or those who were unable to register in previous exercises,” the statement read.
“We encourage all eligible citizens to either begin the process online or visit our offices and designated centres once the physical registration begins.”

INEC further clarified that the CVR process is not limited to new registrants. It also provides for; transfer of voter registration, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), Correction of personal information, such as names and dates of birth

The Commission reiterated its commitment to credible and inclusive elections.

“Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right. We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive,” the Commission stated.

The 2025 CVR exercise marks a critical step in Nigeria’s electoral calendar, with observers expecting heightened interest ahead of what could be a fiercely contested election cycle.
