INSECURITY FORCES SHUTDOWN: Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Closes Indefinitely on State Government Order

The academic calendar in Bauchi State has been abruptly halted as the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of all academic activities. The drastic measure follows a direct order from the Bauchi State Government, which is grappling with a rapidly deteriorating security situation across the region.

The suspension, which took effect immediately, was communicated to the entire polytechnic community via an internal memo circulated on Monday.

The memo, signed by the Deputy Registrar for Academics, Mr. Safiyo Yila, on behalf of the Registrar, confirmed the immediate closure. The school made it clear that its decision was in line with a wider directive from the state government.

“Sequel to the public announcement by the Bauchi State Government, which directed the closure of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions within the state due to security concerns, I am directed to inform you that all academic activities have been suspended with immediate effect,” the memo stated.

The decision highlights the critical nature of the security threat, compelling the government to prioritize the safety of thousands of students and academic staff by ordering a comprehensive shutdown of all educational institutions.

Broader Security Concerns

The closure of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi is part of a sweeping, state-wide order that impacts institutions at all levels from basic primary schools to advanced tertiary learning centers. This coordinated move underscores the efforts by the Bauchi State Government to proactively address the growing insecurity that has threatened peace and public life in the state.

Academic staff and students have been urged to comply fully with the directive. The memo emphasized the necessity of the shutdown as a means to “safeguard the well-being of staff and students” during this period of heightened security risk.

The institution further noted that a date for the resumption of academic activities will be communicated to the polytechnic community “in due course,” leaving the timeframe for the students’ return uncertain.
