The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has announced extended operating hours for the Blue Line rail service to accommodate thousands of attendees expected at The Experience 2025 gospel concert this weekend.
The Blue Line will operate until 11:43 pm on Friday, December 5, extending service by over two hours beyond its usual 9:30 pm closing time. The adjustment is designed to manage the surge in commuter traffic before and after the annual all-night gospel event.
On Saturday morning, December 6, train operations will commence at 4:00 am to facilitate early-morning movement and post-event return trips. Regular service will continue through 9:30 pm that day.
However, the Red Line will maintain its standard Friday schedule, operating during morning peak hours from 6:00 am to 10:00 am and evening peak hours from 5:20 pm to 8:40 pm. The Red Line does not operate on Saturdays therefore, both rail lines will revert to their normal timetables from Sunday, December 7.
The Experience Lagos is Africa’s largest gospel concert, held annually on the first Friday of December. Founded in 2006 by Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church, the event features local and international gospel artists and usually draws massive crowds to Lagos Island.
Kolawole Ojelabi, LAMATA’s spokesperson, said commuters must have a Cowry Card to use the trains. He asked passengers to plan their trips early, follow instructions at the stations, and cooperate with officials so everything runs smoothly during the event weekend.
The transport authority urged concert-goers to take advantage of the extended schedule for convenient access to and from the venue.
