A socio-political support group, Seyi Makinde Disciples (SMD), has urged residents of Oyo State and Nigerians across the country to use the sacred periods of Lent 2026 and Ramadan 1447AH to offer prayers for Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State, and Nigeria.
The call was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and jointly signed by the group’s Convener, Prince Laja Adeoye, and its Spokesman, Olusegun C. A. Taiwo (OCAT). The group encouraged Christians and Muslims to take advantage of the spiritual significance of the fasting seasons to seek divine guidance, wisdom, and protection for the state and the nation.
According to the group, Lent and Ramadan represent periods of reflection, sacrifice, discipline, and renewed faith, adding that both seasons provide an opportunity for collective prayers for peace, stability, and progress.
The statement read in part: “This is a time for sober reflection and collective supplication. We call on the people of Oyo State and Nigerians to pray for Governor Seyi Makinde, asking God to grant him wisdom and strength to continue delivering good governance, and to ensure sustained peace and development in our dear state and nation.”
While acknowledging the current economic challenges facing the country, the group attributed the hardship to policies of the present federal government but expressed confidence that with faith and unity, Nigeria would overcome its difficulties.
“We believe that the hardship and suffering being experienced are products of the present federal government’s policies, but we trust God for ease and a more plentiful economy soon,” the statement added.
The group also appealed to residents to remain patient, steadfast, and supportive of ongoing efforts aimed at stabilizing the economy and improving living conditions.
SMD further emphasized the need for unity beyond religious and political affiliations, stressing that the prayers and sacrifices observed during Lent and Ramadan should foster love, tolerance, and a collective commitment to the growth and development of Oyo State and Nigeria.
