President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.) as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.

His reappointment was announced in a statement issued on November 14, 2025, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Marwa, who first assumed office in January 2021, will now lead the agency until 2031, continuing his role in driving Nigeria’s anti-drug campaign.
The President noted that Marwa’s return to the role underscores his administration’s trust in the NDLEA’s work in combating drug-related crimes. “Your reappointment signifies our confidence in your dedicated efforts to free the country from the scourge of drug trafficking and abuse. I encourage you to continue pursuing the merchants of hard drugs who threaten the lives of our citizens, particularly the youth,” Tinubu said.
Under Marwa’s leadership, the NDLEA has recorded major drug busts, arrested thousands of suspects, and intensified public awareness on the dangers of illicit substances. With the new term, Marwa is expected to deepen NDLEA operations and strengthen partnerships with local and international agencies as the country faces growing threats from synthetic drugs and cross-border trafficking networks.
This decision signals the government’s determination to maintain momentum in its drug reform initiatives and crackdown on illicit substances.
