Niger Govt Announces Two-Day Public Holiday Ahead of LG Elections

The Niger State Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays ahead of the local government elections taking place on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago made the announcement in a statement released in Minna. He said the holidays will give residents time to get ready and take part in the elections.

The government said the break will also help officials and agencies prepare properly for the polls in all 25 local government areas of the state.

The Niger state governor encouraged people to come out and vote peacefully, adding that security arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth election.

The election, organised by the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, will allow voters to choose new chairmen and councillors for the local councils.
