Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka Loses U.S. Visa Permanently

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly cancelled the visa of Nigerian Nobel Prize winner, Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Soyinka revealed this on Tuesday while speaking to journalists at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, on Lagos Island.

The letter, dated October 23, 2025, stated that “new information” had come to light after the visa was issued, leading to the cancellation.

Soyinka said he was surprised by the decision, as he had done nothing wrong. He, however, added that he holds no grudges against the U.S. or its people.

“There are no hard feelings. I will still welcome any American who wants to visit me in Abeokuta,” he said.

The writer has often spoken out against Trump’s style of leadership, and some people believe this could be the reason behind the action.

Soyinka’s visa, which was first issued in April 2024, is now invalid, meaning he can no longer travel to the United States.

The news has caused mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians describing the move as unfair, while others say it shows how politics can affect even famous people.
