Tension is rising in Osun State politics as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trade words over the recent screening of Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Governor Adeleke, who is seeking a second term, was screened earlier this week at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja. After the exercise, he expressed confidence that his performance in office would earn him another victory at the polls.
But the opposition APC dismissed the screening as a “mere show,” accusing the governor of poor leadership and mismanagement of state funds. The party claimed Adeleke’s administration had spent over ₦60 billion in the governor’s office alone without employing teachers or addressing key education challenges in the state.
The APC also accused the state government of defrauding thousands of job seekers in what it called a “fake teacher recruitment exercise” and blamed the governor for the recent hike in school fees across tertiary institutions in Osun.
In its reaction, the PDP defended Adeleke, describing him as a responsible and performing governor who has delivered on his promises. The party accused the APC of being jealous of Adeleke’s popularity, saying the opposition was only trying to distract him from his developmental agenda.
Governor Adeleke has maintained that he will continue to focus on good governance and people-oriented policies, insisting that the people of Osun are happy with his administration.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2026 governorship election, both major parties appear ready for another heated contest in the state.
