Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has approved the payment of a 13th-month salary to all state workers as part of measures to cushion the effects of economic hardship during the yuletide season.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced the decision on Sunday, describing it as a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare. The payment covers all categories of workers in the state’s employment, including civil servants, teachers, and local government employees. The gesture is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of workers and their families during the festive period.
Oyelade emphasized that the approval reflects the administration’s people-centered approach and its determination to prioritize workers’ welfare despite economic challenges. He noted that Governor Makinde has consistently demonstrated concern for the wellbeing of state employees.
The commissioner also, urged workers to continue supporting the government’s development agenda and maintain their dedication to public service.
However, the 13th-month salary comes amid rising inflation and increased cost of living across Nigeria. The gesture is seen as timely relief for workers grappling with economic pressures, particularly during the December period when household expenses typically increase.
Oyo State workers have praised the governor’s decision, noting that it will enable them to meet their financial needs during the festive season.
