Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday, unveiled a record-breaking N891.99 billion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year, tagging it the “Budget of Economic Expansion.” The proposal was presented before the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan.
The 2026 budget marks a sharp rise from the N684 billion approved for 2025, underscoring the administration’s push to strengthen infrastructure, boost human capital, and accelerate economic growth across the state. With over 56% of the budget dedicated to capital projects, Governor Makinde said the plan reflects his commitment to “building long-term assets that will drive prosperity and improve the quality of life for residents.”
In the sectoral breakdown, Infrastructure tops the list with N210.02bn, followed by Education with N155.21bn. The Health sector receives N70.81bn, while Agriculture gets N19.99bn. The remaining N435.9bn will go to different projects across multiple sectors.
While addressing lawmakers, Makinde said the 2026 budget was designed to consolidate the gains of his administration’s long-term development roadmap.
“This is a budget that builds on our achievements while charting new pathways for sustainable economic expansion. Our focus remains infrastructure, education, and healthcare the pillars of a modern and productive Oyo State,” he told the Assembly.
The governor expressed confidence that the 2026 plan would attract more private investment, enhance revenue generation, and strengthen the state’s economic base.
The Appropriation Bill now awaits legislative scrutiny and approval. If passed, it will become the largest budget ever recorded in Oyo State.
