The PEFTI Film Institute has received a major boost after the Federal Ministry of Education approved its upgrade, allowing the institution to offer additional National Diploma programmes.
The approval was granted through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), clearing the way for the institute to introduce five new ND courses. The newly accredited programmes are Business Administration and Management, Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, Mass Communication, Multimedia Technology and Music Technology.
PEFTI, established in 2004 and has won several awards for its focus on practical skills and innovation. It currently has two campuses, one in Ajao Estate, Lagos, and another in Ibadan, Oyo State. The development marks an important milestone for the Lagos-based creative institution, which has spent more than two decades training young Nigerians in film, media and creative arts.
While reacting to the approval, PEFTI Registrar, Abiola Adenuga, described the upgrade as a recognition of the institute’s commitment to practical, industry-focused education. He said the new status would strengthen PEFTI’s capacity to prepare students for careers in Nigeria’s fast-growing creative and media industries.
The approval follows PEFTI’s recent award as Nigeria’s Best Innovation Enterprise Institution for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 school years.
However, with the new accreditation, the institute is expected to attract more students seeking nationally recognized qualifications in both creative and business-related fields, further expanding its role in skills development and youth empowerment.
