President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Major General O.E. Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) following the dismissal of all current service chiefs.
The announcement was made on Friday through a statement from the Presidential Spokesperson, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, who said the changes take immediate effect. The move is part of the President’s renewed efforts to restructure the nation’s security leadership and enhance coordination among the armed forces.
According to the statement, the President also approved the retirement of other service chiefs and directed them to hand over to the most senior officers in their respective branches until substantive replacements are appointed. Before his new appointment, Major General Oluyede served in several key command positions within the Nigerian Army, earning recognition for his leadership and experience in counterinsurgency operations.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing service chiefs for their service to the nation and expressed confidence that the new leadership will bring fresh strategies and improved efficiency to Nigeria’s security architecture.
The shake-up marks one of the most significant changes in Nigeria’s military leadership since the beginning of Tinubu’s administration, signaling his intent to strengthen the fight against insecurity across the country.
