Rivers APC Seeks Fubara’s Support Ahead of Power Handover

Amid growing political uncertainty in Rivers State ahead of the upcoming handover ceremony, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and defect to the APC.

The call was made on Tuesday by the Rivers APC spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, who said the party would warmly welcome Governor Siminalayi Fubara if he chose to defect. Nwauju added that if he were in the governor’s shoes, he would return to Rivers State on Thursday and formally declare his switch to the APC.

Darlington’s comments come amid heightened political tension in the state and increasing speculation about Governor Fubara’s future in the PDP and his strained ties with the party’s leadership.

With the handover ceremony fast approaching, political observers believe that a defection by Governor Fubara could significantly reshape Rivers State’s political landscape and influence power dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP has not yet released an official statement in response to the APC’s remarks. However, party insiders indicate that internal negotiations are underway to address the crisis and secure Governor Fubara’s continued support.

Governor Fubara’s suspension and ongoing clash with the PDP leadership have fueled prolonged speculation about a possible defection. At the same time, the APC riding on recent victories in other regions is presenting itself as a credible alternative for discontented politicians looking for a fresh political base.

Although it is still uncertain whether Governor Fubara will take up the APC’s offer, political analysts suggest that the days ahead could be crucial in determining his political trajectory and the future power dynamics in Rivers State.
