Senate Welcomes Two Newly Elected Senators From Edo and Anambra

The Senate on Wednesday swore in two new lawmakers, Joseph Ikpea from Edo Central and Emmanuel Nwachukwu from Anambra South, after by-elections were held to replace the former occupants of the seats.

The swearing-in took place during the Senate’s plenary session, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio in charge, while the Clerk, Emmanuel Ojo, administered the oaths of office and allegiance to the new senators.

Ikpea and Nwachukwu were elected to replace Monday Okpebholo, who became the Governor of Edo State, and the late Ifeanyi Ubah, the former Senator for Anambra South who died in July 2024.

With the two new senators sworn in, the Senate now has full representation across all districts. They are expected to begin their legislative duties right away and take part in debates and committee work.

Senate President Akpabio congratulated the new senators and encouraged them to serve with integrity, patriotism, and dedication to their constituents and the nation.
