Tinubu Nominates Omokri, Fani-Kayode, Ex-INEC Chief Yakubu and 28 Others as Ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, with the list featuring high-profile political figures including former presidential aide Reno Omokri, ex-Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and immediate past INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu.

The nominations, announced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Saturday, features former presidential aide Reno Omokri, controversial ex-minister Femi Fani-Kayode, immediate past INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Other political figures on the list include; former Lagos Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro, Ondo Senator, Jimoh Ibrahim, and ex-Adamawa Senator Grace Bent. Two former first ladies, Erelu Angela Adebayo of Ekiti and Fatima Florence Ajimobi of Oyo, were also nominated and other high-profile political figures.

According to the presidency, these ambassadors will represent Nigeria in countries where the nation has important relationships; countries like China, India, South Korea, and Canada, as well as regional powers like South Africa and Kenya.

Middle Eastern nations such as the UAE and Qatar are also on the cards. Some nominees will head to international organizations including the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union. The specific postings won’t be announced until after the Senate confirms the appointments.

This is the second batch of ambassadorial nominees Tinubu has sent to the Senate this month. Earlier, he forwarded three names to the senate and they include; Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu, and Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are who are being considered for postings to the UK, US, or France.

However, the Senate is expected to begin screening the nominees in the coming weeks.
