President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday.
The planned presentation follows a formal request conveyed to lawmakers, informing them of the President’s intention to lay the budget before both chambers for consideration. The disclosure was made during plenary sessions in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The budget presentation marks a key step in Nigeria’s annual fiscal process, officially kicking off legislative scrutiny of the federal government’s spending plans for the 2026 financial year.
Although full details of the budget proposal are expected to be unveiled during the presentation, the National Assembly is already considering the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP), which provides a broad outline of the government’s revenue projections, expenditure priorities, and borrowing plans for the coming years.
Once presented, the proposed budget will be referred to the relevant committees for detailed examination, after which lawmakers are expected to engage with ministries, departments, and agencies before passing the Appropriation Bill.
The 2026 budget is expected to show how the Tinubu administration plans to raise more revenue, reduce debt, and grow the economy despite ongoing financial challenges.
