UPDATED: Anglican Church Appoints 15 Newly Elected Bishops

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has elected 15 new bishops during the Episcopal Synod of the House of Bishops, held on Thursday at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel, Okesha, Ado-Ekiti, in the Ekiti Diocese. This move fills one vacant diocese and establishes leadership for 14 new ones, advancing the Church’s expansion and mission across Nigeria.

The Church’s Communication Officer, Korede Akintunde, announced the development in a statement on Friday. The Synod, led by the Primate, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Ndukuba, was described as a strategic step to enhance the Church’s presence and effectiveness across Nigeria.

The Primate stated that the establishment of new dioceses and the election of bishops reflect the Church’s dedication to Gospel outreach, improved pastoral care, and stronger spiritual and administrative structures, aimed at meeting the increasing needs of its members across the country.

The newly elected bishops will soon take up leadership in their assigned dioceses, with consecration ceremonies to be held later. Although the statement did not disclose their names or specific dioceses, it highlighted that the move supports the Church’s long-term vision of growth, discipleship, and community impact.

Through this expansion, the Church of Nigeria strengthens its status as a leading and growing province within the global Anglican Communion, reaching millions of faithful across the country.
