The Federal Government has announced public holidays to mark the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities.
The Federal Government announced on Monday that December 25, and December 26, 2025, will be public holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day, while Thursday, January 1, 2026, will be a public holiday for New Year’s Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and conveyed through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
However, Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the festive season, urging citizens to reflect on the values of love, peace, unity, and sacrifice which the celebrations represent. He encouraged Nigerians to use the period to strengthen family bonds and promote national harmony.
The minister also urged Nigerians to celebrate carefully, stay peaceful and security-conscious, and pray for the country’s growth and development.
However, the Federal Government said it will work to keep people and their property safe during the holidays and asked Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies.
