UPDATED: Governor Mbah Joins APC, Quits PDP

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has left the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the All Progressives Congress, in a move that signals a big political change in the South-East region.

He announced his decision on Tuesday at a press conference held at the Enugu Government House.

While explaining the reasons behind his decision, the governor said the move was motivated by his commitment to fast-track development in the state and align Enugu’s goals with the federal government’s broader national agenda.

“This decision was not made lightly,” Mbah stated. “It stems from my conviction that Enugu must be strategically positioned to benefit from the renewed national vision for growth, unity, and prosperity.”

His move is seen as a big win for the APC in the South-East, where the party has been trying to gain more support ahead of future elections. Political analysts say Mbah’s decision might inspire other politicians in the region to switch parties too, especially as the 2027 general elections get closer.

As of press time, both the PDP and the APC had not yet made any official comment on the development.
