Some Nigerian youths have voiced support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on Nigeria’s security challenges, calling on President Bola Tinubu to adopt stronger measures to combat terrorism and insecurity nationwide.
Trump had reportedly hinted at a possible U.S. intervention, citing concerns over rising insecurity and alleged persecution of Christians in parts of northern Nigeria. The remarks have since stirred debate among Nigerians, especially on social media, where many young people demanded immediate domestic reforms rather than foreign involvement.
Some youth groups said the president must strengthen national security institutions, ensure justice for victims of violence, and improve intelligence operations instead of waiting for foreign powers to intervene.
Others, however, argued that international attention could pressure the Nigerian government to act more swiftly in restoring peace and protecting citizens.
The Presidency, in an earlier reaction, maintained that Nigeria remains open to international cooperation but will not compromise its sovereignty in addressing internal security challenges.
