Zimbabwe Dismisses German Coach Michael Nees After Winless World Cup Qualifiers

Zimbabwe’s Football Association has sacked German coach Michael Nees after the national team failed to win any of their matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The 58-year-old coach managed just two wins in 16 games since taking charge, both coming during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. However, his side could not secure a single victory in ten World Cup qualifying matches, finishing at the bottom of their group behind South Africa, Egypt, and Angola.

Officials said the decision followed a review of the team’s poor performance and the need for fresh ideas ahead of future tournaments.

Nees, who took over the Warriors in 2023, was expected to rebuild the team, but the disappointing campaign ended his tenure earlier than planned. The search for a new head coach is now underway as Zimbabwe looks to bounce back from the setback.
